On this episode, celebrity makeup artist Jessica Hoffman Shakir shares what she’s learned and how she’s grown from living with severe scoliosis. At one point, her spine had collapsed but chose not to have spine surgery. To this day, she lives with chronic pain and irregularities with breathing and organ function. Jessica has worked with celebrities such as Karlie Kloss, Brooklyn Decker, Kevin Bacon, and Sylvester Stallone as well as appearing often on national TV. She's also a contributor to major magazines including Glamour and Marie Claire.

As a TV Beauty Expert, Jessica has regularly appeared on national TV including ABC’s FABLife, The Dr. Oz Show, VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live, JUCE TV, as well as local stations such as FOX and KCAL 9.

She has also worked as a makeup artist on set of The Talk, Wendy Williams, The Gossip Table, Katie, America’s Next Top Model, and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Her work has also been featured in various magazines including Entertainment Weekly, Glamour, Marie Claire and The Hollywood Reporter. Recently, she launched her own makeup and beauty workshop “MY BEAUTY BFF.”

Behind the glamour, Jessica lives with severe scoliosis with spinal curves ranging from 47 to as extreme as 62 degrees, basically to the point of structural collapse. To this day, she suffers chronic spinal, neurological, respiratory, and organ issues.
