【UQiYO New Single "RA!!i!!NY" 4.03.2019 Released!!】

Hailing from Tokyo, UQiYO is an indie electropop band/project conceived by composer/frontman Yuqi in 2010. They are pioneers in the Japanese music scene, incorporating global musical elements that vary widely from indie rock, synth pop to IDM, into their own undeniably original style.

Their music is often described as "an unexpected mix of the coolness of electro with a shimmering warmth of organic sounds”, and their creative, intricately produced music has made waves globally- over 3 million streams on Spotify, and all songs from their latest album “Stones” featured on major playlists like "US Viral 50" in over 65 countries.

Influenced by Northern European nature and the artsy city culture of Tokyo, they create distinctly soothing and dynamic soundscapes that brings the listener on a musical experience like no other. "RA!!i!!NY"
Into multiple layers of psychedelic dreams the listener is taken into, portrayed by unexpected changing tempos, shimmering synths, and storytelling vocals. Inspired by rainy skies, art pop, and city lights of Tokyo, the song is a visualization of bright neon city lights bleeding together into an ephemeral dream. RA!!i!!NY provides a perfect setting for spring/summer/rainy/electro/chill vibes, an overall happy mood but a tinge of melancholy longing.

A head-nodding dance beat with an intellectual concept, this song is the first in the world to depict a trip across multilayers of “dreams” lyrically and musically.

It also incorporates traditional Japanese haiku concepts as a sub-theme, such as having a cohesive theme revolving around changing seasons and the emotions that are conjured by it. A subtle reference to their name “UQiYO” (which comes from “ukiyo-e”, a traditional Japanese art form), some Japanese poetic proverbs (春雨 三寒四温) are used as well.

This music video, shot by Canadian videographer Patrick Shannon, was shot in Tokyo with the members of UQiYO, illustrating the aesthetics and narrating the story behind the song.

“RA!!i!!NY” will be used as the theme song for a documentary film on History Channel in Japan and South East Asia, with over 12 million subscribers.

音楽配信サービスSpotifyの米国版バイラルチャート”US Viral 50”や北欧、アジアの大規模プレイリストに曲がピックアップされるなど、国境を越えてその独特な世界観とグローバルなサウンドが評価されているUQiYO。

また、先月発表したMonkey Majikとのコラボレーション楽曲の話題が冷めやらぬままリリースされた新シングル”RA!!i!!NY”では、世界で初めて「夢の中の夢の中の、また夢の中」を、幻想的な音楽と歌詞で表現することに成功した。

サイケデリックなアートポップの世界へとリスナーをいざなうこの曲は、「雨の日のTOKYO」をインスピレーションに、まるで都会のネオンが滲んで行くような疾走感とトリップ感を体験できる一曲となっている。

心地よいダンスビートでありながら、音楽史上初めてである「何層もの夢の中へとリスナーをいざなう」という知的なコンセプトを含んでおり、アーティストとしての新境地に挑戦している。

MVは、ハリウッド等で活躍するカナダの映像クリエイターPatrick Shannonが東京でメンバーと撮影し、曲の世界観とストーリーを繊細に描いている。

”RA!!i!!NY”は、History Channelの番組の主題歌・挿入歌として書き下ろされた。この番組は日本以外にも東南アジアの１７ヶ国合計、1,280万世帯に放送され、異色の“日亜”共同プロデュース作品となっている。
