“Royal Review” completes the uploading of disc C.402 from the Chappell Recorded Music Library in 1950, with side A “Golden Spurs” previously posted.
This is a composition by Arnold Steck (real name Leslie Statham 1905-1974), a man long associated with theBritish military as a soldier and for many years in charge of the Band of the Welsh Guards.
Outside of his military career, as a composer he was particularly active in the 1950s and 1960s and is remembered mostly for his marches with titles like "Piccadilly", "Birdcage Walk", "Path of Glory" and best known of all, as it was the original signature tune for Match of the Day, "Drum Majorette", as well as other 'production' music' titles for the Chappell library such as “Ten To One”, "Morning Canter" and "Important Occasion".
As is the case with 'Golden Spurs', this track also appears on Guild Music disc GLCD 5147 “Bandstand In The Park – Volume 2”, one of the 'Golden Age Of Light Music series', devised and compiled by David Ades (1938-2015).
The performance is again by the Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy conducted by Captain Gijsbert Nieuwland.
