Rappers Qlas en Blacka uit Rotterdam-IJsselmonde schieten als een komeet omhoog. Wie zijn deze succesvolle tieners? En spelen ze een rol in de huidige knok- en steekpartijen op Zuid?Foodhallen, Kop van Zuid:Cheneydo (16) alias Blacka en zijn manager zijn blij met het verzoek om eens te vertellen over hun stormachtige opkomst. "Er wordt veel over ons gepraat, maar eigenlijk niemand vraagt ons wat." Dat steekt bij de rappers.Inderdaad, kranten als NRC Handelsblad en de Volkskrant analyseren enthousiast hoe hun raps, drill music (overgewaaid uit Engeland en de Verenigde Staten), wel, geen of misschien een beetje invloed hebben op de huidige onlusten op Zuid.Het verhaal van die komeet van succes is fascinerend. Nederlandstalige rap met rauwe, gewelddadige teksten. 'M'n keukenmes, dat ga je voelen', of 'Beng-beng, jij gaat niet op vakantie'. Vanaf een computer in de huiskamer, zonder pr of een platenlabel, scheren ze in een mum van tijd tientallen gevestigde Nederlandse artiesten voorbij in populariteit en inkomsten.De muziek verspreidt zich vanzelf als een olievlek op sociale media en gaat inmiddels over de landsgrenzen heen. "Dit is de toekomst", schrijft artiest Nella Banks in een reactie op YouTube."De beats bestellen we. In de studio zingen we in." Het nummer Shooter, waarvan de muziekvideo deels is opgenomen op de 'mini-Erasmusbrug' over de A16 tussen IJsselmonde en Beverwaard, schiet inmiddels naar de twee miljoen streams op Spotify.De jongens doen het niet puur voor de lol, ze verdienen er flink mee. "YouTube verdient leuk, maar het geld zit 'm echt in Spotify." "Hier kocht ik voor het eerst iets, een pakje kauwgom van dertig cent. Hier heb ik voor het eerst een meisje gezoend."Dit is ook de plek waar 'Verlof' (bijna 500.000 hits op YouTube) is gefilmd. "Daar kan ik wat betekenen en daar ben ik goed in."Waar moet het heen met de onlusten op Zuid? Een oplossing is er niet zomaar, zegt Blacka. De rivaliteit gaat immers al decennia terug. Maar één idee heeft hij wel. "Zet hier een buurthuis neer met een studio en Playstations. In IJsselmonde is helemaal niks te doen. Daarom hangen we ook op het plein."Qlas en Blacka hopen hun vliegende start in de muziek door te kunnen zetten."Dat we hier op een dag in de buurt rondrijden met een rare wagen", dagdroomt Qlas.
