What comes to mind when you hear the word "Beach." Images of white waves crashing against
white sands with the deep blue sea on the horizon, bright sunlight, cool breezes blowing in your
face and a glass of chilled drink?
Interestingly, when it comes to beaches, you will be surprised to know that they also come in
different shapes and colours than would be expected. Here are 10 Most Surprising beaches in the
World in no particular order.
Number 10. The Unique Pink Sands Beach in Harbour Islands in the Bahamas.
Located along the eastern Atlantic Oceanside, the beautiful Pink Sand Beach almost seems
endless. What makes this beach unique is its 5km long stretch of soft pink sand.
The pale pink colour of the sand comes from the microscopic coral insects, known as
Foraminifera, which have a red or bright pink shell full of holes. Playing a significant role in the
environment, the Foraminifera are among the most abundant single-cell organisms in the ocean.
After they die, the wave action crushes the bodies and washes the remains ashore and mixes it in
with sand and bits of coral. The pink stands out more in the wet sand at the water's edge. Unlike
in other parts of the world, the sand in the pink sand beach is always cool.
A popular tourist attraction, the beach boasts of numerous resorts, that encourage relaxation in
the serene, unique surroundings.
Number 9. The Playa Escondida or the Hidden Beach in Mexico.
The Hidden Beach is located on one of the Marieta Islands just a few miles off Punta Mita on the
west coast of Mexico. Through an aerial view of the islands, a large circular crater can be seen,
and within that crater is the secluded beach also known as Playa Del Amor or Lovers' Beach.
Like something fresh out of a fantasy novel, the beach with its vast, sandy cavern filled with the
blue waters of the Pacific, has had its share of violence. It was a testing site for bombs in the
1900s, which is responsible for several craters and caves on the islands. In the 1960s, however, a
protest led by Jacques Costeau put an end to the harmful human activity on the islands.

Extensive military testing and explosions destroyed the islands for decades. Still, many years of
peace and tranquillity have finally replenished the islands' flora and fauna which have been
increasingly fruitful and have multiplied. The Islands are now home to hundreds of plant and
wildlife species. Which is another incredible attraction, the beautiful marine life can be spotted in
the coral reefs around the island; eels, turtles and dolphins can be regularly spotted in the waters.
Noted for its popularity among tourists from around the world, the hidden beach owes its allure
to its secretive location. The pristine, white sand and bright blue sand also attracts a lot of
tourists every year.
Number 8. The Glass Beach, Fort Bragg in California.
Glass beach gets its name from the colourful smooth glass pieces that can be found mixed into
the pebbly beach.
It was formerly a trash dump in the early 20th Century when residents of Fort Bragg dumped
their household trash and garbage over the cliffs above what is now Glass Beach.
It all started in 1949, the area around Glass Beach was a public dump referred to as "The Dumps"
by locals. At the time, Molotov cocktails were often used to light fires to reduce the trash pile.
Fast forward to 1967, the city leaders closed the area and started various cleanup programs to
correct the damage. Over the next decades, the biodegradable waste gradually degraded, and the
metal and other items were eventually gathered and sold as scrap or used in art. But the bottles,
ceramics and pottery were slowly broken down and worn out by the pounding waves into the
smooth, small, coloured baubles that cover the beach today.
Every year, the beach is visited by tens of thousands of tourists. They are discouraged from
picking the glass and are encouraged to leave them for others to enjoy.

Arnold Steck, real name Leslie Statham (1905–1974) was an English arranger and composer. He forged a successful career in the Welsh Guards regiment of the British Army playing in the Welsh Guards Band, and was occasionally given to performing as a soloist outside of his military career.
He was) particularly active in the 1950s and 1960s and is remembered mostly for his marches with titles like "Piccadilly", "Birdcage Walk", "Path of Glory" and best known of all as it was the original signature tune for Match of the Day, "Drum Majorette", along with other 'production' music' titles for Chappells library such as "Morning Canter" and "Important Occasion.
Queens Parade was a 1955 entry in the Chappell library at C.455, played by te New Era Symphonic Band conducted by Michael John. It is coupled with another Arnold Steck composition “Cortege”.

Inference from SNP array data through GWAS has shown that approximately one-third to two-thirds of the pedigree heritability can be captured from common SNPs. For psychiatric disorders, estimates of SNP-heritability are typically less than 50% of the estimates of pedigree heritability. One hypothesis of the difference between these estimates is that low frequency and rare variants are not sufficiently tagged by common genotyped and imputed variants. If remaining genetic variance can be captured from whole-genome-sequence (WGS) data then this has implications of gene and gene variant discovery and for polygenic prediction. We will show results from analyses on WGS data on more than 20,000 samples on the ‘model’ traits height and BMI.
