Das Akai Professional MPK25 ist ein portables Controllerkeyboard mit MPC Production Controls. Eng verwandt mit dem MPK49, dem ersten Keyboard mit MPC Pads überhaupt, besitzt das MPK25, wie der Name vermuten lässt, 25 Tasten, weist aber ansonsten dieselben Möglichkeiten und die Flexibilität auf, durch die das MPK49 zu einem der beliebtesten Keyboards wurde. Das MPK25 ist der ideale Reisebegleiter, da es kleiner und portabler ist. Man kannst das MPK25 auf der Couch oder unterwegs problemlos auf den Schoß nehmen und immer dann an einem Tracks arbeiten, wenn eine neue Idee entsteht. Dazu ist nur ein Laptop und das MPK25 notwendig.
KREATIVES EINGABEGERÄT
Das MPK25 kombiniert ein Keyboard mit 25 halbgewichtete Tasten mit 12 MPC Pads. Das Keyboard bietet monophonen Aftertouch für weitreichende Steuerungsmöglichkeiten. Die MPC Pads lassen sich druck- und anschlagdynamisch spielen und fangen jedes Detail deiner Peformance ein. Da die Pads vier Soundbänke ansprechen können, stehen insgesamt bis zu 48 Samples auf einmal zur Verfügung.
Das MPK25 besitzt Transporttasten sowie Modulation- und Pitch Wheels, um der Musik weitere Ausdruckskraft zu verleihen. Außerdem zwei zuweisbare Fußschaltereingänge, die den Anschluss eines Fußschwellers und eines Fußtasters für zeitweilige Steuerungen wie Patch Change oder Start/Stop ermöglichen.

Eine der wichtigsten Eingabequellen an einer MPC sind die zuweisbaren Q-Link Controller. Das MPK25 bietet zwölf Regler sowie vier Buttons, die zur Steuerung fast jeden Softwareparameters eingesetzt werden können. Zwei Bänke verdoppeln die Anzahl der verfügbaren Parameterzugriffe
AUSDRUCKSKRAFT
Die MPC Serie verfügt über zwei Technologien, die in der MPK Serie ebenfalls Verwendung finden - MPC Note Repeat und MPC Swing. Diese außergewöhnlichen Features wurden in den meisten Hit-Tracks der letzten zwei Jahrzehnte verwendet. Mit der MPC Note Repeat Funktion spielt das MPK (oder MPC) automatisch rhythmische Muster, wie z.B. 16tel HiHat Noten. Die MPC Swing Funktion wird manchmal auch "das Herz und die Seele des Hip Hop" genannt, da es zu perfekt eingespielte Sequences mit einem natürlichen Feeling versieht. Du kannst die Stärke und das Timing des Swings genau einstellen, damit ein perfektes musikalisches Ergebnis entsteht.
Über die integrierten MPC Technologien hinaus besitzt das MPK25 einen eigenen Arpeggiator, mit dem du in Sekundenschnelle, kreative Riffs erzeugen kannst.
Für die Pads des MPK25 stehen MPC Full Level und MPC 12-Level Features, als auch Tap Tempo und Time Division zur Dynamik-, Tempo- und Timingdefinition zur Verfügung.

KOMPLETTES SYSTEM
Das MPK25 ist ein MIDI Controller, der alle MIDI Daten über ein einziges USB Kabel überträgt. Auch die Versorgungsspannung bezieht er vom USB Bus. Schnell am Computer angeschlossen, und das MPK25 ist sofort betriebsbereit. Das MPK25 kann mit den meisten MIDI Aufnahme, Sequencing und Performance Softwareprogrammen eingesetzt werden und eignet sich deshalb für Keyboarder, Produzenten, DJs und VJs!
Im Lieferumfang des MPK25 ist Ableton Live Lite Akai Edition, eine der populärsten und leistungsfähigsten Performance und Produktionssoftware der Welt enthalten. Ableton Live Lite ermöglicht es Musikern, spontan musikalische Ideen zu komponieren, aufzunehmen, zu remixen, mit ihnen zu improvisieren und diese zu bearbeiten.

Music and recidivism is at the heart of the new documentary “16 Bars” which chronicles the lives of four inmates at the Richmond City Jail in the US state of Virginia. Their stories and songs give the audience a raw look into America’s criminal justice system.
The film is the work of director Sam Bathrick and Todd “Speech” Thomas of the American hip hop group “Arrested Development”. Speech heard about the jail’s recording studio, which is part of a program designed to help inmates find redemption, and wanted to help out. He spent 10 days at the jail collaborating with the four inmates to record an album. The Album, “16 Bars”, serves as the soundtrack for the film.
“Lock a dog in cage and mistreat him. What you think gon' happen. once you release him?” raps Teddy Kane in the song “Lost One”. Kane, a former inmate, uses his experience in jail to talk about the struggles of incarceration and the difficulties of transitioning back into the real world once released.
On this episode of The Stream we are joined by Speech and Bathrick to discuss how music is helping those incarcerated change their tune.
