Het uitduel van Neptunus werd in Rotterdam gespeeld omdat de accommodatie van Twins niet voldoet aan de eisen.De overwinning van Neptunus op de hoofdklasse-debutant volgt na een voorbereiding waarin de ploeg van coach Evert-Jan 't Hoen een week in Curaçao verbleef. "Dat heeft ons heel goed gedaan," zegt de trainer. Neptunus is regerend landskampioen én Europa Cup-houder. De verwachtingen voor komend seizoen zijn dan ook hoog. "Zo hoort het ook. We willen elk jaar landskampioen worden en de Europa Cup winnen. Daar spelen we voor."Sterker teamMet het vertrek van zes spelers en de komst van vijf nieuwe spelers ziet de selectie van Neptunus er iets anders uit dan afgelopen seizoen, maar niet minder volgens 't Hoen. Integendeel zelfs. "Ik vind dat we op papier een sterker team hebben, maar dat moeten we ook op het veld laten zien. We moeten hongerig blijven. Er is veel concurrentie en dat is ook lekker voor een coach. Iedereen moet zich elke wedstrijd weer bewijzen," vervolgt de eindverantwoordelijke.Ook binnenvelder en slagman Dwayne Kemp is blij dat het nieuwe seizoen is begonnen. "Iedereen is er klaar voor. Als team willen we altijd de beste zijn en dus zijn onze doelstellingen hoog: landskampioen worden en de Europa Cup winnen. We hebben sterke jongens erbij gekregen, waaronder catcher Ricardo Dashenko," vertelt Kemp aan RTV Rijnmond. "Als wij spelen zoals wij horen te spelen, dan winnen wij van iedereen."Komende zaterdag en zondag is De Glaskoning Twins opnieuw de tegenstander van Curaçao Neptunus. Ook UVV, Kinheim en Vaessen Pioniers wisten hun eerste duel te winnen.
